You will grow only to the threshold of your pain. That’s the differentiating factor between a high-level leader, and someone who has plateaued. The more pain you can handle, the higher you can go. Why?
Because growth equals change. Change equals loss. Loss equals pain. And so, growth equals pain. We each have a pain capacity. If you move yours higher, you can grow higher. If you are the lead leader in your organization, your pain threshold will either elevate you, stagnate you, or drag you down.
The truth is that no leadership role comes without pain. You can understand, embrace, and push through this pain, however. Indeed, that is the mark of true leadership. The higher you go, the greater the pain will be. That is why you will only grow to the threshold of your pain.
